Event Setup / Manual Handling

Team Leader explaining set up requirements to a staff member for an event

Event set-up involves the meticulous arrangement of infrastructure, decor, and equipment to ensure the smooth functioning of the event space. This includes staging, lighting, audio visual equipment, seating arrangements, signage, and any other necessary elements.

Attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols are paramount during this phase to create an inviting and functional atmosphere for attendees.

Wave staff work closely with venues and 3rd party suppliers in the set up of all events.

Manual handling is a key element of set up and requires planning of resource and equipment required for the set up of events.

Manual handling at events still centres on safely lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling loads such as furniture, bars, catering equipment and technical kit, using good posture and planning.

Safe practice starts before the lift: teams should assess the task, the load, the individual and the environment, plan a clear route, remove trip hazards and choose handling aids like trolleys, pallet trucks or dollies wherever possible. Even with lighter loads, staff should keep the load close to the body, adopt a stable stance, avoid twisting, move smoothly and never lift more than they can comfortably manage, asking for help with awkward or heavy items.
