Case Study: The Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre, Oxford - opening dinner.

Client background

The Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities is a major new cultural and academic landmark at the University of Oxford, bringing together seven humanities faculties and research institutes with performance, exhibition, and teaching spaces under one roof.

It is based in the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter and includes the 500-seat Sohmen Concert Hall, theatre, cinema, exhibition space, and other public-facing venues.

This was a high-profile dinner hosted by Mr Schwarzman with international significance, and combining academic prestige.

Discreet engagement

Wave Staffing was engaged to support a launch of exceptional profile where discretion, professionalism, and seamless delivery were essential. In a setting involving distinguished guests, and university stakeholders our role was to provide calm, polished staffing that supported the event.

Our approach focused on low-profile but highly attentive service, ensuring every guest interaction was handled with care, accuracy, and warmth. This type of opening requires staff who understand how to operate in culturally significant and reputationally sensitive environments.

Working with in-house team

Wave Staffing worked closely with the Centre’s in-house team to align with event timings, guest flow, and operational expectations. Clear communication, pre-event briefing, and coordinated front-of-house support helped ensure that the opening day ran smoothly across multiple spaces and simultaneous activities.

This collaborative approach meant our staff could integrate seamlessly with the venue team, supporting both the operational side and the guest experience. It also helped maintain consistency in tone, service standards, and on-the-day responsiveness.

On the day highlights

For Wave Staffing, the key highlight was contributing to a VIP dinner hosted by Mr Schwarzman that demanded precision, calm coordination, and excellent guest care throughout a busy and high-visibility evening.

Supporting a venue of this calibre required staff who could move confidently between formal protocol, public access, and premium hospitality expectations.

Client testimonial
